VOCAL AND CHORAL SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
- Students interested in majoring in vocal music performance or choral music education should audition for a scholarship on Saturday, March 10, 2018. (Prospective applicants who cannot attend this date MUST contact Mr. Matthew Carey, email@example.com prior to March 2 for an alternate audition date.) ALL applicants must send in the audition form by March 2.
- Students interested in singing in the A-State Concert Choir and University Singers to receive a non-major Choral Grant should contact Dr. Dale Miller, firstname.lastname@example.org, and schedule an audition prior to March 10.
Auditions are open to students who plan to be voice majors (either vocal performance or vocal music education). Scholarships will range from $1,240 to a maximum award of $3.030 per semester. Selection of recipients will be by audition-only before the Arkansas State University voice faculty with criteria based on vocal potential, musicianship and scholarship.
Students wishing to audition for voice scholarships (music majors) should prepare two contrasting solos. At least one song should be from the classical repertoire, and one of the selections may be from musical theatre repertoire. Both selections should be memorized.
All auditions must utilize piano accompaniment. No recorded accompaniments will be accepted. If a pianist is needed, one will be provided by Arkansas State University if copies of music selections are sent with the application or one week prior to audition. Those using an ASU accompanist will be assigned a rehearsal time upon receipt of application.
Students wishing to audition must complete the application form, enclose teacher recommendation, and return no later than February 15. Late Registration will be accepted through February 28.
For Non-Music Majors
Auditions are open to students who do not plan to major in vocal music who would like to sing in the ASU choirs beginning in the Fall Semester of 2018. Choral Grants will equal $865 per semester and may be renewed up to a total of 8 semesters. Selection of recipients will be by audition-only before the Arkansas State University Director of Choral Activities with criteria based on vocal potential, musicianship and scholarship.
Students wishing to audition for a Choral Grant should prepare one song. It may be a solo from the classical or musical theatre repertoire, an all-region piece, or church solo. Recorded accompaniments and a cappella auditions will be accepted. If a pianist is needed, you must provide your own. Students wishing to audition should request their choir director, voice teacher, or church/community music leader to submit a letter or email of recommendation on their behalf.
