A-State Jazz Bands Concert

04/14/2017, 7:30 PM

A-State Jazz Studies will present the 5th Annual “Swing into Spring” concert.   This year’s season-ending program will feature Dallas composer/trumpet artist Chris Clark.  It is free and open to the public.

A-State Lab Band will open the concert with a set including a premier of Craig Collison’s piece “Ezzie,” arranged for the band by Ken Carroll.  In addition, the Lab Band will play “Yankee Doodle,” arranged for the band by Chris Ott of the Huntertones, and “Soupbone,” written by John Clayton for the Clayton/Hamilton Big Band.

Clark will join the A-State Jazz Orchestra in a performance of several of his compositions featured on his recent CD release “Personifications – the C3 Big Band.”  Raised in Waco, Clark received a Bachelor of Music Education degree with a trumpet emphasis from Baylor University. Chris also earned a Master of Jazz Studies from DePaul University.

Clark started C3 Compositions in 2014 with the goal to provide great music that can be attained at all levels of development. C3 Compositions (named C3 to represent Chris’ initials of CCC) provides educators and musicians alike with swingin’ charts that will sound good regardless of the level of the ensemble. C3 charts can be heard being performed by the C3 Big Band, a professional jazz ensemble that Chris directs in Dallas.

April is National Jazz Appreciation Month.  Everyone is welcome to attend.  For more information, contact the Music Department at (870) 972-2094.
