Welcome to Arkansas State University!

Students seeking admission into the ESL / ELA program at Arkansas State University must meet the following criteria:

Language Training Only

The admission criteria for ESL / ESA is:

  • Official Copy of High School Diploma in native language with translation in English.
  • Official Copy of High School Transcripts in native language with translation in English. Minimum required Grade Point Average is 2.3/4.0.
  • All of the Academic Transcripts/grade reports and Graduation certificates/diplomas/degree sheets should have the original stamp from the Issuing authorities and should come in their sealed envelopes.
After you've completed the ESL / ELA Program

Upon completion of the program, international students are eligible to apply for entrance into undergraduate and graduate programs at Arkansas State University with no further English proficiency examination, e.g. TOEFL, IELTS, etc. provided they meet the following:

  • Completion of the final level of the program with 80% or higher proficiency and a 4.0 on the iTEP for undergraduate admission.
  • Completion of the final level of the program with 90% or higher proficiency and a 4.5 on the iTEP for graduate admission.

Students must also meet any additional admissions requirements required by the program of study in which they desire to enroll.

Minimum Age Requirement

If we have applicants under 18 years of age, they will be sent an email that they will not be able to rent an apartment off-campus or open a bank account.  Thus, they will need to live on-campus, and they will need to use Peer Transfer to transfer funds to their student account.

Programs that offer conditional admission 

 All Undergraduate (Bachelor) programs, with the exception of some programs in the health and nursing field. Please contact international@astate.edu if you are wanting to go into the health or nursing field for more information.
